10th Annual St. George Winter Bird Festival: January 24-26, 2013

Participants can attend any of the Festival’s multiple presentations, workshops or field trips for a minimal $5.00 - 3 day general admission pass per person (children 17 & under are free).

Check out the activities on Saturday: The Hawkwatch presentation will include live raptors! The Birding as Families presentation is presented by Ivan Richardson who is 9-years old. Home Depot will also be building bird houses with kids at 1:30pm at the Tonaquint Park Pavilion.

This Weekend in Southern Utah
December 14-16, 2012

Christmas at the St. George Recreation Center Saturday, December 15, 2012 from 6-9pm. Ring in the holidays with games, crafts, goodies, and a visit from the Big Guy. Decorate and bring a personal sleigh for a snowed in movie. The cost is general admission or a member pass. Located at 400 E. 285 S. in St. George, UT. Call 435-627-4560 for more info.


The Living Nativity presented by the Fine Arts of Hurricane City. This is the 3rd annual theatrical version of the “Living Nativity” Featuring the Hurricane Community Choir December 15th at 6:30pm and 8pm. The Hurricane Community Choir will be singing traditional and not so traditional favorites at 7pm. Held at the Hurricane Community Center. www.cityofhurricane.com
 

Christmas Light Show throughout December every day from 7-9pm. Located at 445 W. Heritage Drive in St. George, UT. The Main Event will be held December 22, 2012. The main event is presented by Kuhn’s Home Repair and Air and will include Santa Claus, hot chocolate, hot dogs, lasers, bubbles, synchronized music, Planet 94.1FM and more. This is a free event, but any donations made will go to B.A.C.A. (Bikers Against Child Abuse).

Christmas in the Canyon held every Thursday, Friday, & Saturday through December 22nd from 6:30-9pm at Tuacahn Amphitheatre in Ivins, Utah. Free to see the lights and visit Santa. Hurricane Tree Festival


Hurricane Valley Christmas Tree Festival

This Festival is a FREE event! All money raised at the bake sale, raffles and auctions will be donated to "Coins for Kids" for local families in Hurricane.

Turkey Trot November 17, 2012: The City of St. George is putting on this fun 1-mile walk and 5K at the historic Seegmiller Farm, 2450 S. 3000 E. in St. George, UT. Cost: $5 + 3 cans of food per participant. All donations benefit the Dixie Care and Share. Register at the event. www.sgcityrec.org

Because Animals Matter presents Summer Lovin' Dog Walk and Breakfast at 9 a.m. Registration is $20 early registration per human/dog team, $25 at the event. $10 each additional person includes breakfast. For more information, call 435-635-1147. Also, Sing for the Dogs karaoke will be at the Main St. Cafe to raise funds for the new Hurricane City Dog Park. Cost to sing is $2 per song.

For children ages 0-11

Picure Book Readers - Read/listen to 10 books a week. Record them in the reading log provided by the library and get weekly prizes.

Junior Fiction Readers - Read 8 books of 50+ pages for a total of 400 pages or more through the 8 week program. 50 pages = weekly repuirement for prize.

If children complete all 8 weeks of the Summer Reading program, they will recieve a book and be entered into a grand prize drawing.

Recreational Festival


Hurricane City's Rec Fest on Saturday May 21st, 2011 at the Hurricane Community Center.
Rec Fest is short for Recreation Festival, intended to showcase and promote the many recreational opportunities in the area.  There will also be music, food, and free stuff! .

Activities:
  • 3 on 3 basketball tournament - For 3rd graders on up to adults.  All games will be played outdoors, starting Friday the 20th at 6pm and continuing through Saturday the 21st.  Every participant gets a t-shirt, and there will be awards for the winners in each division.  The cost for this event is $60 per team (3-4 players).  Check out our website or Facebook page (Hurricane Hoopjam) for more information.
  • "Make & Take" Dinosaur Activity
  • Golf - Sand Hollow Golf Course and Sky Mountain Golf Course will be sponsoring a putting course and a driving bay.
  • "Fun Zone" - Just for kids games. Admission is $2 per person for unlimited access all day.
  • Hurricane Little League - How fast can you throw?
  • Paintball 
  • Fishing
  • Mountain Bike - A safety and skills course will be set up for those who have their bikes and helmets to participate in.  
  • Skateboard - LipTrix is bringing some skateboard props over to put together an AWESOME skateboard venue.  Bring a skateboard and helmet.
  • Rock Climbing
