June 13, Monday
7am
  • Flag raising ceremony - Boy Scouts of America
  • Lecture by Kim Peterson, Ph.D. "Symbolic Nature of Forts"
  • Guest Artist Terri Metcalf-Peterson "A Medley of American Songs"
  • Introduction to the Fort by Lyman & Karen Platt
10am
Archaeological dig begins with Richard Talbot, Office of Public Archaeology. KIDS are invited to participate. Bring sweepers (paint brushes) and sunscreen. You'll work along side BYU archaeologists.

June 14, 15, & 16
8am - 7pm Tours and archaeological dig continues
7pm Lecture by Edward Leo Lyman, Ph.D., Utah Historian: "Forts in Utah" @ New Harmony Library

June 17, Friday
8am-9pm Wrapping up & summarizing findings
5pm Chili Cook Off:
  • Chili, hot dogs, and snacks @ Kanarraville City Center.
  • Pioneer games for children & prizes.
Location: One mile west of I-15 between Cedar City & St. George, Utah. Take Exit 42 (New Harmony Exit) and head West for 1.2 miles on State Road 144. Look for paved road leading to library and turn left. Parking available on library road just 50 feet from the fort site.

Summer Program
For children ages 0-11

Picure Book Readers - Read/listen to 10 books a week. Record them in the reading log provided by the library and get weekly prizes.

Junior Fiction Readers - Read 8 books of 50+ pages for a total of 400 pages or more through the 8 week program. 50 pages = weekly repuirement for prize.

If children complete all 8 weeks of the Summer Reading program, they will recieve a book and be entered into a grand prize drawing.

Utah Summer Games

The Utah Summer Games is an Olympic-style sports festival for athletes of all ages and abilities open to residents of the state of Utah. For the past 26 years, the Utah Summer Games has conducted this event in Cedar City, Utah with an average total of 9,600 participants, 50 thousand spectators, and 1,000 volunteers in attendance each year. Add all that together and you have one of the premier sporting events in Utah.

Meet at Gunlock Reservoir at 9:00 am.
  1. 20 min. Transition clinic, learn how to properly set-up your transition and what gear you need to remember.
  2. 10 min.  Tri clothing – Fabrics, and what’s important when choosing an outfit. By the Pearl Izumi Rep.
  3. Short swim in Gunlock Reservoir and Zoot Wetsuit demo.
  4. Bike ride out and back up through the town of Gunlock.
  5. Short run and Pearl Izumi Tri Shoe Demo – Rhielle with Pearl Izumi will be analyzing running form, helping with form and giving running tips.
There will be a raffle after for everyone that comes for Free Pearl Izumi Tri Gear, Pair of Pearl Izumi Shoes, and St George Running Center Gear and Gift Cards.
