Bryce Thatcher Presentation

February 28, 2012 at 6:30pm
3884 S. River Road Bldg. B, St. George

Long before trail running became popular, Bryce Thatcher was running to the tops of mountains in light-weight road running shoes.  He set many speed records including the current ascent/descent record of the Grand Teton of three hours and six minutes, which included negotiating glacier ice and free climbs of airy cliffs.  He also studied sports medicine in Boulder, Co and worked to expand the limits of human endurance.

His passion led him to become the inventor of the hydration pack and to create packs suitable for his unique (at that time) sport.  Later, he started Ultimate Direction to bring his innovations to a growing sport.  After selling Ultimate Direction to Sierra Designs where he continued designing for several years, he went to work designing hydration products for Nathan Sports, which, during his time there, went from a lower tier running-pack company to an International leader in hydration.  Most packs you see on the shelves today are Bryce’s designs or iterations of his designs.  He is very excited that his goals to provide on-going innovation to the running community are now being fulfilled at UltrAspire.

Cable Mountain Lodge

Cable Mountain Lodge
Springdale, Utah

We visited Cable Mountain Lodge this week and LOVED it!
Here are some of the reasons I like Cable Mountain Lodge:
  1. Located a few feet away from the entrance to Zion National Park.
  2. View of the Virgin River and beautiful red rock cliffs.
  3. FREE tickets to see "Treasure of the Gods," a 45 minute documentary about Zion at Zion Canyon Giant Screen Theatre. Boasts the largest screen in Utah and is located next to the lodge.
  4. Half price movie tickets to the documentary "Tornado Alley" in 3D and the featured Hollywood movie shown at Zion Canyon Giant Screen Theatre.
  5. Beautiful Decor!
  6. Heated pool and jacuzzi.
  7. Mini kitchen or fully equipped kitchen in every room.
My kids slept in a wall bed made by Wilding Wall Beds, a local St. George company. The furniture and decor was beautiful and I like that they used local companies and craftsman to furnish their rooms.

Here is the view from our private balcony.
This is the off season for Springdale and Zion, so you can get discounts on top of their awesome rates. Visit Cable Mountain Lodge. Kid friendly and highly recommended by St. George Mom.

Practice Run the Dogtown 1/2 Marathon Course
St. George Running Club
Saturday, February 4, 2012

Meet at Treasure Valley Park (Dogtown 1/2 finish line, see the map below for directions) at 6:30am. Carpool up to where the race will start in Coral Canyon.  You may choose to follow  the course exactly by turning left on Majestic or you can continue straight up past Staheli Farm back to the park.  The run will end up being 10 or 13 miles.  We will need other vehicles to drive up to the start or to bring drivers up after, so if you are able to that would be great!  Also, everyone is responsible for their own water.

You do not need to be a member of the club to run with us. Just show up.
Get a course map here and sign up for the actual 1/2 marathon here: Dogtown 1/2 Marathon
