10^th Annual St. George Winter Bird Festival

January 24-26, 2013

Participants can attend any of the Festival’s multiple presentations, workshops or field trips for a minimal $5.00 - 3 day general admission pass per person (children 17 & under are free).

Especially check out the activities on Saturday. The Hawkwatch presentation will include live raptors! The Birding as Families presentation is presented by Ivan Richardson who is 9-years old. Home Depot will also be building bird houses with kids at 1:30pm at the Tonaquint Park Pavilion.

Clubs & Activities

Curiosity Club

I just signed up my daughter for another session of Curiosity Club. This session begins Tuesday, January 15, 2013 with new topics: Invention Exploration, Birds of Prey, Barnyard Fun, and Busy Bee Activities. The kids will have so much fun learning about inventions and maybe inspired to dream up their own invention! My kids love the science and art they engage in. 

Fee: $20 (ages 3-6 years)

Time: 10:30 am OR 1:30 pm

Date: Tuesdays starting January 15th for 4-weeks

Chess Club For Kids

My son enjoys playing Chess and we were so happy to find a Chess Club for kids in elementary school. The instructor is Michael Kruse who has a passion for the game and played the World Chess Champion.

Chess Club is part of the Kidspace After School program offered through Community Education. The program is designed to assist students with their homework as well as providing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) activities. A schedule is being created, but Chess Club will most likely be held afternoons at 5 different schools in Ivins, St. George, Washington, and Hurricane. The fee is $5 a class and payable to the instructor.

4-H Community Healthy Living Club

Sign up your child for this Healthy Living Club for only $5. This ticket covers your child’s admission to 2 session held at the USU Extension Office, 44 N. 100 E., St. George. The classes are Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 4pm and Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 7pm

Zion Joy to the World in Springdale, Utah. On December 8, 2012 listen to "Soul What" at the Sol Food Supermarket Plaza, 995 Zion Park Blvd from 5:30-7:30pm. The Light Parade begins at 7pm at Canyon Springs Drive and ends at the Canyon Community Center. Watch videos on the website of the spectacular floats. Hurricane Dance Program presents The “Peanut-cracker” December 7th at 7pm and December 8th at 1pm. This is a short, condensed version of the “Nutcracker” along with a few surprises. Featuring the Hurricane Dance program students and the “Force” in Hurricane, UT. www.cityofhurricane.com

 

Holiday Social at the Tonaquint Nature Center December 8, 2012 from 10:30am - 12:30pm.  My family enjoys this event every year. We love the Nature Center! Admission is free and the activities are inexpensive and fun. Play games and look for the Penguins on a trail hunt. Follow the City of St. George on Facebook. 

Veyo Cinder Valley Lions Club invites everyone to visit Santa and have some punch and cookies on December 8th at 6pm at the Veyo Water Building on So. Spanish Trail Dr. in Veyo. Santa will arrive in the fire truck at 6 pm and will be there to visit until around 7pm. Follow Veyo Rodeo on Facebook.

St. George Mom & Family at Christmas in Tuacahn

Christmas in the Canyon every Thursday, Friday, & Saturday evenings through December 22, 2012 from 6:30-9pm. You can enjoy holiday performances, visit Santa, warm up near the bonfire and see the lights for free. There is a Live Nativity playing each night at 7pm & 8pm for 20 min. The cost is $2 per ticket or $15 per family. You can also ride the Old Salty Train Ride or the Holiday Hay Ride for the same price. Christmas Light Show throughout December from 7-9pm. This is St. George's biggest Christmas Light Show. Located at 445 W. Heritage Drive in St. George, Utah. Any donations will go to B.A.C.A. (Bikers Against Child Abuse).

Children’s Christmas Party December 8, 2012 at 2pm at the Washington City Library. Come watch the short classic “Mickey’s Christmas Carol” and enjoy some fun Christmas crafts. Free activity!

Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis 5K December, 8^th at Vernon Worthen Park, 300 S. 400 E. St. George, Utah. Registration is at 8am and the race begins at 10am. Support the Arthritis Foundation. Register on-line at www.stgeorgejinglebellrun.org

Celebrate Halloween with games, treats, prizes, and crafts. Kids can make their own Monster Snot for 25 cents! Bring a trick-or-treat bag and dress up if you want to.

Children 4+ can enter a decorated or carved pumpkin into the Pumpkin Alley Contest. The pumpkin creation must be created by the person entering and submitted by 6:15pm. Winners will be announced at 6:30pm. My son's pumpkin won last year and we had a great time. See you there Monday!

FREE Event! Fun for the whole family!

This event is to introduce families to outdoor educational and recreational opportunities in Southern Utah. Kids explore stations and earn completion stamps. When each station is visited, youth are entered into a drawing for prizes. We attended last year and had fun.

Pre-register to receive a goodie bag along with a hot dog, chips, and drink. Visit Jr. Ranger Scavenger Hunt and click on "Programs and Classes" and then "2011 Nature Center." Finally scroll down to Jr. Ranger Scavenger Hunt. Fill out the information for each child attending. There is no charge at check out. Or you can go to the St. George City Rec Center or the BLM office, 345 E. Riverside Drive.
